Lorraine welcomes Little Book of Energy
posted on 14/10/2009

Lorraine Barrett, Assembly Member for Cardiff South and Penarth, has welcomed the publication of The Little Book of Energy, which offers practical tips on keeping warm this winter whilst reducing energy bills.

The book has been produced by the Energy Retail Association and advises consumers on how to reduce energy consumption whilst not altering one’s lifestyle. The campaign, which is also being supported by paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson and actor Richard Wilson, highlights steps such as ensuring taps are completely switched off which can have a dramatic effect in cutting utility bills.

Practical steps which one can take to curtail energy consumption in the home outlined in the book range from ensuring that curtains do not cover radiators to having the home insulated to prevent heat escaping through the roof.

Speaking after the launch of the book at the National Assembly for Wales, Ms Barrett commented,

‘Despite the current financial climate, it appears unlikely that energy costs will fall, despite people finding it increasingly difficult to cover costs such as water and electricity bills. There are several steps outlined in this book which will have the dual effect of reducing the cost of energy as well as reducing one’s carbon footprint.’
