LOCAL SKILLS BOOST AS NEW MODERN APPRENTICESHIPS SCHEME ANNOUNCED

Today saw the announcement of a new £70million three year Modern Apprenticeship World Class Skills project - it's a major step forward in Labour’s drive to give people the skills they need in today’s economy. At last year’s Assembly election, Welsh Labour promised to increase the number of Modern Apprenticeships.

The new scheme - which is funded by the Labour-led Assembly Government and the EU’s European Social Fund - will help more than 22,500 people to raise their skill levels with more than 14,000 training places made possible.

This important new project represents a major investment in the future of thousands of people in Wales. Modern apprenticeships have been a great success story, and that is why today Welsh Labour is delivering on its manifesto promise to increase the number of these places in Wales.

Modern Apprenticeships offer practical skills and respected qualifications. They are equipping thousands of people with the skills they need to progress their careers and by meeting the needs of more and more employers they are helping to drive forward Wales’ economy.

The new project will provide three levels of training through Pre-Apprenticeship, Foundation and Modern Apprenticeship levels to meet the varying skills needs of people and employers across Wales.
